Privacy Policy

Gallery

Last updated: September 6, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Gallery ("we," "us," or "this App") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our Android application.

Product summary: Gallery is a local photo and video gallery for Android phones. Its core purpose is to browse, organize, view, edit, and manage media stored on your device.

Why the Android Photo Picker is not sufficient: Gallery's core functionality requires persistent and frequent access to the user's photo and video library, including displaying all available media, automatically organizing media into albums and folders, searching and filtering the library, detecting newly added media, managing favorites and the recycle bin, and performing user-requested edit, move, rename, and delete operations. The Android Photo Picker provides access only to user-selected media and therefore cannot provide the complete gallery-management experience offered by this App.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information Collected by the App Itself

Gallery is primarily a local gallery and media-management client. Unless explicitly described in this Privacy Policy (such as Firebase Analytics / Crashlytics, Google ML Kit model downloads, or Google Play In-App Review), preferences, album configuration, favorites, recycle-bin metadata, app-lock settings, and edit history are processed on your device. It does not require you to register or sign in, and it does not upload your photos or videos to our servers for an account or cloud gallery service. Specifically:

If you use the system "Share", "Set as", print, or similar features to send media to another app or service, the data flow is governed by the system and the destination app's policies. This App accesses such data only to the extent needed to perform the action you chose.

[Important] About photos, videos, and media location: To function as a gallery, this App requests access to photos and videos on your device (and, where applicable, media location metadata such as GPS coordinates stored in EXIF). This access is used to display, organize, edit, and manage your media on your device. We do not upload your photo or video library to our servers for cloud storage, AI training, or advertising. Media-location access is used for features such as viewing EXIF details or showing a photo's location on a map when you choose that action; it is not used for continuous background tracking of your live device GPS position.

Note: If you use system actions such as Share, Set as, Print, or Open with, media may be sent to another app or service that you choose. That transfer is initiated by you and governed by the system and the destination app's policies. We do not claim that media can never leave your device under any circumstance.

1.2 Information Related to Third-Party Services

This App does not integrate advertising SDKs (such as AdMob), and we do not use the Advertising ID to show personalized ads in the App. We do not operate a user-account backend or cloud service for storing users' personal account data or photo libraries. This App uses the following third-party services, which may collect certain information:

Firebase Analytics

We use Firebase Analytics to understand how users use this App and to improve the experience. Firebase Analytics may collect:

Important: Firebase Analytics is designed primarily for product and aggregated analysis. For more information, see Google's documentation: https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy

Firebase Crashlytics

We use Firebase Crashlytics to automatically detect and report app crashes and errors so we can fix issues and improve stability. Crashlytics may collect:

Important: Crashlytics is used primarily for technical diagnosis and app improvement; Crashlytics does not collect your photos, videos, or gallery preferences as content. For more information, see Google's documentation: https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy

The Firebase-related data above is processed under Google's privacy policy. For more information, see: https://policies.google.com/privacy

General note: Data collected through Firebase is used primarily for analytics and app improvement. Google processes such data in accordance with its privacy policy. We do not upload your photos, videos, or gallery preferences through Firebase.

Important: We do not provide a user account system, and we do not operate our own servers for storing users' personal data. Data processed by Firebase is subject to Google's data retention and security practices; retention periods follow Google's rules.

Google ML Kit (on-device)

This App uses Google ML Kit for optional on-device features such as text recognition (OCR) and subject segmentation / cutout. Image analysis for these features is performed on your device. Depending on the device and feature, ML Kit may download model files from Google over the network. We do not use ML Kit to upload your photos to our own servers for cloud AI processing.

For Google's related privacy information, see: https://developers.google.com/ml-kit/terms and https://policies.google.com/privacy

Google Play In-App Review

This App may use the Google Play In-App Review API to allow you to submit a rating or review without leaving the App. Review submission is handled by Google Play under Google's applicable policies.

Other on-device libraries: Features such as image filters, OpenCV-based repair tools, video playback, and format decoding run locally on your device. They do not create a separate cloud account for your media.

2. Permissions Requested by the App

To provide the corresponding features, this App declares or may use the following permissions (subject to your device system and the final merged application manifest):

Permission Purpose
android.permission.READ_MEDIA_IMAGES
android.permission.READ_MEDIA_VIDEO
Used to access photos and videos on your device so the App can provide its core gallery functionality: browsing all available media, organizing albums and folders, searching and filtering, detecting newly added media, managing favorites and the recycle bin, and performing edit, move, rename, and delete operations. The Android Photo Picker alone cannot provide this complete gallery-management experience.
android.permission.READ_MEDIA_VISUAL_USER_SELECTED On Android 14 and above, if you grant access only to selected photos or videos, Gallery will operate with that limited access. Some features that require access to your complete media library may not be available until broader access is granted.
android.permission.READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE
(maxSdkVersion 32)
android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE
(maxSdkVersion 28)
Used on older Android versions for reading (and, where applicable, writing) media in shared storage before the newer media permissions model.
android.permission.ACCESS_MEDIA_LOCATION Used to read location metadata embedded in media files (for example EXIF GPS) for features such as EXIF viewing or showing a photo on a map when you choose that feature. This is not continuous live GPS tracking of your device.
android.permission.MANAGE_MEDIA Optional media-management access on Android 12 and above. Declared in the App manifest and checked at runtime. When this access is available, certain user-requested delete, rename, copy, and move operations may use MediaStore media-management APIs; otherwise the App uses alternative system prompts (such as the Storage Access Framework). This App does not declare MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE (All files access).
android.permission.POST_NOTIFICATIONS Optional (requested as required by the system on Android 13 and above). Used for progress or status notifications related to operations such as copy / move / batch processing when those features need to inform you.
android.permission.RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED Used after device reboot to re-scan MediaStore folders and refresh the App's local gallery index so albums and newly captured media can appear more reliably. This process uses media already on the device; it does not perform live GPS tracking.
android.permission.SET_WALLPAPER Used when you set an image as the device wallpaper.
android.permission.INTERNET
android.permission.ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE
(may be merged via libraries such as Firebase / Play services / ML Kit)
Used for Firebase Analytics / Crashlytics network transmission, optional ML Kit model downloads, and Google Play In-App Review related communication. Not used to upload your photo library to our servers or to run an in-app advertising network.

[Sensitive-access note]: This App declares photo and video access because it is a gallery app whose core functionality is managing media on the device. This App does not declare All files access (MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE). Location-related media metadata is limited to information contained in media files / EXIF for user-facing media features, not background live GPS tracking.

Limited access: On supported Android versions, if you grant only selected photos and videos, the App will operate with limited media access and some gallery features may be incomplete until broader access is granted.

Note: This App requests only the permissions needed for its features. You may manage or revoke some permissions in system settings; revocation may affect related features (for example, inability to display your library, show EXIF location, or show notifications).

3. Widgets, Local Security, and Other On-Device Features

This App may provide a home screen widget that displays a folder or media shortcut using data already available on your device.

This App may offer local app lock using a pattern or PIN for opening the App or protecting certain actions. Those credentials or protection settings are stored and verified on your device; we do not operate a remote account login for this feature. Biometric unlock is currently not offered as an in-app option.

Optional tools such as OCR, cutout, collage, watermark, compare, stitch, and image repair process selected media on your device (ML Kit features may download models as described above).

This App does not provide cloud sync of your photo library, online social feeds, or personalized advertising recommendations. The App uses Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics as described in Section 1.2.

4. How We Use Information

We use related information only for the following purposes:

5. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, trade, rent, or share personal information for advertising purposes. Technical data may be transmitted to the third-party providers described in this Policy solely for analytics, crash reporting, ML Kit model delivery, or Play review functionality. Data processing or disclosure may occur only in the following circumstances:

6. Data Security

We take the security of your information seriously. Data related to this App's core gallery and media-management features is processed primarily on your device. When Firebase Analytics / Crashlytics transmissions occur, or when ML Kit downloads models / Play services communicate with Google, network transmission typically uses secure protocols such as HTTPS/TLS. We will not sell your data or use it in ways inconsistent with this Policy. We do not operate a user-account backend or cloud gallery service for storing your photo library.

Please note: if Android Auto Backup is enabled on your device, some app preferences or private app data may be included in device backups according to system rules. That visibility results from your device / account backup settings, not from upload by us to a separate gallery-account service. Your photos and videos in shared storage remain subject to Android's media / storage model.

7. Children's Privacy

This App is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe there is a related issue, please contact us.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The updated version will be posted on this page (or the same in-app link), and the "Last updated" date will be revised. For material changes, we will provide notice in an appropriate manner as required by applicable law. We encourage you to review this Policy periodically.

9. Your Rights

To the extent permitted by applicable law, you may have the right to know about, access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of information related to you. Because this App is primarily local, you can usually manage local data through in-app features such as deleting favorites / recycle-bin items / settings, clearing app storage, or uninstalling the App in system settings. You may also revoke media, notification, or related permissions in system settings. You may uninstall this App at any time to stop using it; after uninstall, data in the App's private directory is deleted according to system rules, but device backups may retain copies until expired or deleted by you or the backup provider. Media files that remain in shared storage are not deleted solely by uninstalling the App unless you deleted them earlier.

Because we do not store your photo library on our servers as a cloud account, there is no server-side request for access, correction, or deletion of that local media from "our cloud." For information processed by Google Firebase, ML Kit, or Play services, please see Google's privacy policy.
